Preppy Text Tutorial

This is actually rather simple, especially if you follow these step by step! I do mine a littler differently though for this tutorial by the way I make mine for signs and such.
1. Make a new document or just work from your sign.
2. Using the text tool(), write out your site name.
3. Make sure you have your layers palette open by going to the top menu then Window >> Layers or hitting F7 on your keyboard.
4. I am going to use the text tool again and select on letter at a time to make each letter a different color like this.
5. Right click on your text layer and select Blending Options... and check the box next to Bevel and Emboss and use these settings.
6. While staying in the Blending Options... window, check the box next to Stroke and use these settings.
7. Next use your magic wand tool() and select everything around the text, holding down shift to add on to the selection between the a's and o's or any other letter that has some sort of shape inside. Then go up to the menu bar and then Select>>Inverse. The select will look like this.
8. Again in the top menu bar, go to Select>>Modify>>Expand.. and replace the number to 3 and press okay. You will then see something like this.
9. Make a new layer by going to Layer>>New>>Layer.. and hit ok.
10. Now we are going to add a gradient using the gradient tool() which is under the paint bucket tool (just right click the paint bucket tool and select the gradient).
11. Below the top menu bar you will see the gradient () and double click that to open the Gradient Editor window.
12. Change the colors of the tabs closer to the bottom of the window to match the colors in your text. You can add new tabs by simply clicking the colors on the bar. Here is what mine looks like.
13. After hitting ok, simply click at one end of your text and drag across to the opposite end and let go of the mouse key. Make sure you are on the newest layer when doing this and you have the selection made yet! It will look something like this.
14. Using the layer palette, drag the layer with the gradient under the text layer so the palette will look like this.
15. If you still have anything selected, just use the magic wand tool again and right click to select Deselect to get rid of the selection.
16. Now you can either finish here, or add more to the gradient layer.
17. If you'd like to move on, right click on the gradient layer in the layer palette and select Blending Options... and choose Stroke(Scanline patterns can be found at deviantart.com). Use these settings.
18. You could also add a drop shadow if you would like, just follow these settings or you can change them as you please.
19. This is the final product.
